Diabetic Wound Care Course

The Diabetic Skin and Wound Management course takes you through the science of the disease process, focuses on limb salvage and prevention, and covers the unique needs of a diabetic patient. This course is taught by a Board Certified DWC Physician who is passionate about caring for diabetic patients. The course will prepare you for the board certified Diabetic Wound Certified (DWC®) exam administered by the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO®).

Learning Objectives
  • Describe the difference between type I and type II diabetes.
  • Discuss overall epidemiology of diabetes and incidence of diabetic foot ulcers.
  • Discuss the basic anatomy and physiology of the foot.
  • List the six clinical presentations of diabetic neuropathy.
  • List the neuropathic pain descriptors of distal symmetrical sensorimotor polyneuropathy.
  • Differentiate characteristics of somatic and autonomic nervous system.
  • Identify five components of a comprehensive diabetes foot exam.
  • Summarize risk factors, causes, and classification of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).
  • Name and explain characteristics of at least three common skin complications associated with diabetes.

Access this course ONLINE in the comfort of your own home. Once you access the first narrated module you have 90 days to complete all 17. The DWC examination can be taken at a computer testing center nearest you.
